Statement on why D&I is important to PayU and how it ties back into our vision, our customers and the countries/communities where we operate.

Our responsibilities have increased manifold. With the advent of Covid-19, a lot has changed for societies and economies. I see a lot of change and uncertainty from a health, economic but also social perspective worldwide. And whilst in most countries we see the health situation getting more ‘in control’, the full magnitude and impact that the virus will have on economies and companies is yet to be revealed. At the same time, we see social instability with demonstrations across our globe against institutionalized discrimination and racism.

PayUs Diversity and Inclusion Cornerstones

Representing the D&I Purpose:

It is in these times of turmoil when a lot of companies fall back into old habits and lose focus on their promises of Diversity & Inclusion. I would like for the opposite to happen at PayU and for us to accelerate the D&I work that we’ve started! Which means it allows us to tap into the entire available global talent pool, retain our highly motivated and engaged talent, hone their skills and help them grow and finally allow us to interact effectively with our diverse merchant base across the globe.

To ingrain this in our culture, it’s a collective effort. We need everyone on this call to contribute. All of you influence the employee experience at PayU by making talent decisions all the way from hiring, to development, to reward decisions and to driving an inclusive culture. It is our jobs as leaders to make these decisions in an unbiased and fair way so that all employees have equal opportunities and our business continues to grow and thrive.

Looking beyond Gender

At a recent Prosus briefing, we heard Bob talk about Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging. Like he rightly points out, a lot of our focus is on gender. But D&I is much more. It is also about zero tolerance towards any form of prejudice whether a specific race, ethnicity, or of persons with disabilities or the LGBTQ communities. We need to believe and continuously propagate to our teams and to our clientele that this is strongly ingrained in our organizational culture.
